Battle Rage-SKIDROW

Here’s just a quick post about new game release from group SKIDROW. Once again, it’s a simple, low-budget game with no protection. Battle Rage is an action simulator of robot wars with a fairly decent graphics from Destan Entertainment. The size of the release is pretty small so download and see it was worth it.

Battle Rage: The Robot Wars is a third person shooter with elements of a beat’em up game that allows a player to control giant robots. Battles between the robots take place on carefully selected battlegrounds (so called “arenas”) and they are short, quick, brutal skirmishes. The player can fight alone (versus one, two or even three opponents) or in a team against a common foe. Every robot has its own weapons (for melee and distance combat), additional weapon types can be collected on the arena. The player can modify a robot’s parameters in the single player mode as well as in the multiplayer to fit its possibilities to his/her own fighting style. Also many new, powerful robots will wait for the player to unlock in the story mode. The Tournament has begun!

Laptops finally overtake desktop computers

Global laptop shipments surpassed desktops in the third quarter, marking the first time mobile PCs have led the market, a research firm said Tuesday.Laptop shipments rose by nearly 40% in the quarter compared with the same period last year to reach 38.6 million units, according to iSuppli. Desktop shipments, on the other hand, dropped by 1.3% to 38.5 million units. While the scale of the global economic downturn became apparent in the third quarter, the impact had yet to be felt in the worldwide PC market, which saw an overall increase of 15.4% to 79 million units. ISuppli had predicted a 12% growth rate. There was no change in the rankings of the top five PC makers in terms of shipments. Hewlett-Packard led the market with an 18.8% share, followed by Dell, 13.9%; Acer, 12.2%; Lenovo, 7.5%; and Toshiba, 4.6%.

Acer had an exceptional quarter. Shipments soared 79% year over year. The company shipped almost 3 million more laptops than in the second quarter, with most of those systems being netbooks. The fast-growing netbook category is defined as ultralight, ultraportable PCs with screen sizes of 10 inches or less. Prices are often as low as $300. Outside of the top five, No. 7 Apple lost nearly half a point of market share from the second quarter, falling to 3.2%, iSuppli said. Asustek surpassed Lenovo to become the fifth-largest laptop maker. Asustek was No. 6 in the overall market.

In MOTORM4X: Offroad Extreme the player sits behind the wheel of a cross-country car and drives it in extremely difficult conditions. The goal is to reach a previously designated destination. What makes this game different from others of the same genre is a complete freedom to choose the route, even if it means driving across the roughest terrain. It is solely the player’s decision what route to take.
The player can choose from ten 4WD off-road vehicles. YouTube launched HD video content

YouTube announced Thursday that it has launched a new landing page to corral all the high-definition video uploaded to the site. Along with the new page, YouTube’s HD player now launches in a widescreen window that takes up the majority of the browser window. YouTube posted an FAQ on how to how to encode HD videos and how to avoid “windowboxing”–images that are surrounded by black bars. The video-sharing site quietly rolled out HD-enabled videos earlier this month by adding a “watch in HD” option where the “watch in high quality” option usually appears. Last month, the site began expanding the viewable width of all videos appearing on the site, creating an image like that of a movie theater screen or high-definition television.

The site is also testing three new landing pages dedicated to the popular categories of news, movies, and music. Each page will be populated with the most popular content on the site related to that category, YouTube explained on a company blog: “The news page will be populated with breaking stories from around the world as well as news drawn from the Google News service; music will feature rising videos alongside playlists dedicated to different genres; movies will showcase some of the most popular short and full-length movies on YouTube today.”
